Part 6 of Organizational Profile - Training and Human Resource Development

Continue your profile of your agency. This time, focus on the training and development program.

  1. Describe and critically evaluate the quality of the following: your Agency's orientation program, ongoing skills training (i.e. drills), opportunities for specialized training and development, and opportunities for professional development.
  2. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each.
  3. If the components of any of the above are minimal or absent, propose what training is needed and how it might be addressed.
  4. Analyze how each might be improved.

Next, review NFPA 1021: Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications.

Then be answer the following:

  1. Describe and critically evaluate your agency's officer development program(s), (Consider company officer training [first line supervisory training], mid-level officer/supervisory development, and executive level development). What are the strengths and weaknesses of each?
  2. If the components of any of the above are minimal or absent in your agency, propose what training is needed and how it might be addressed.
  3. Analyze how each might be improved.

You are expected to backup your opinion with sources. You should be prepared to cite approximately 3-5 sources. Be sure to credit all sources. The length of this assignment will vary depending on the type of department you are analyzing and how succinctly you can make your points. The assignment should be somewhere in the range of 5-7 pages.
